Deck Flash™ Barrier

MAXIMIZE THE LIFE OF YOUR NEW DECK! APPLY DECK FLASH BARRIER TO TOP
OF JOISTS TO PROTECT AGAINST WATER DAMAGE
(Click here to purchase Deck Flash
Barrier from an online Retailer)

Protect galvanized metal and aluminum connectorsfrom corrosion…

When placed between treated lumber and metal surfaces, Deck Flash Barrier creates a physical barrier that prevents corrosion of the metal surface caused by contact with ACQ, CA-B and ACZA treated lumber. Can be used to protect metal flashing and hangars, at deck plates, sill plates and anywhere treated lumber is used.

INTENDED USES:

DECK FLASHING

When applied to the top of deck joists, Deck Flash Barrier creates a waterproof membrane that prevents wood rot and decay caused by the accumulation of water under the decking boards. Deck Flash Barrier’s unique asphalt mastic adhesive self-seals around screws and nails, blocking a primary pathway for water infiltration into deck joists. By blocking moisture and preventing wood rot, Deck Flash Barrier maximizes the life of your new deck.

CORROSION BARRIER

When Deck Flash Barrier is placed between ACQ, CA-B, or ACZA treated lumber and metal surfaces, such as galvanized metal and aluminum, it creates a physical barrier that prevents the corrosion of the metal surface caused by contact with the chemicals in treated lumber. It can be used to protect metal flashings and hangars, at deck plates and sill plates, and anywhere treated lumber is used.

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces to receive Deck Flash Barrier must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, and debris. If proper adhesion is not being achieved, Deck Flash Barrier can be attached mechanically with fasteners. Deck Flash Barrier should be applied when temperatures are 45° F or warmer. In colder temperatures, or for difficult applications, a construction grade spray adhesive may be used to improve adhesion.

INSTALLATION

Cut Deck Flash Barrier to the proper length. When apply-ing to deck joists, center over joist. Remove release paper and press in place. Firmly crease and fold Deck Flash Barrier material over both sides of the joist. To increase adhesion, roll with a small hand roller. When being used as an ACQ barrier, Deck Flash Barrier can be applied either to the wood or metal surface. When over-lapping material end to end, a minimum two inch overlap is required. When overlapping side to side, a one inch overlap is required.

WARNINGS:

  1. Deck Flash barrier may be slippery. Do not stand or walk on Deck Flash Barrier during installation.
  2. When screwing or nailing through Deck Flash Barrier into treated lumber, it is still necessary to use approved fasteners.
  3. Because of the possibility of a slight odor from Deck Flash Barrier's asphalt mastic adhesive, do not install where the product is directly exposed to interior living spaces.
  4. Deck Flash Barrier is designed to be covered, and should not be left permanently exposed to direct sunlight.
